generous offer from RNC chairman Reince Priebus:
“We are going to invite them and give them an opportunity to come to the RNC and set up the press conference and tell the media and all the people in their district why it is that they believe ObamaCare is great for this country and great for their constituents,” Priebus said on Fox News’ “On the Record” Tuesday night.
Though something tells me that Democrats will be content to make the case for Obamacare on their own terms, however. On the other hand, Reince might want to put a little bit of time into thinking about how to help Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell make the case against Obamacare, because as Salon's Brian Beutler
writes:
As minority leader, and an in-cycle candidate with a primary challenger, he has to be leading the vanguard of Affordable Care Act opposition. But as a Kentucky senator, and a candidate with a general election opponent, he will soon be running on a platform of taking insurance away from tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of his own constituents.
Kentucky’s exchange — Kynect — is the gold standard for state-based exchanges, and has been since day 1. It has perhaps the highest functioning Obamacare marketplace, relative to uninsured population, of any state in the country.
As Beutler notes, before Obamacare, 17 percent of adults in Kentucky did not have insurance. By the time McConnell's reelection rolls around (assuming he wins his primary), that number will be in single digits, and it will be because of Obamacare. And when that happens, Mitch is going to have a lot of explaining to do, because the core of his campaign will be a promise to return the uninsured rate back to double digits.
Reince Priebus should start plotting strategy now. His good buddy is going to need it.
