TX-Sen: John Cornyn (R) Says Iran Deal Is An Obamacare Distraction

Senate minority whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) made waves on Twitter Saturday night when he posted the following: "Amazing what WH will do to distract attention from O-care."

The posting came just after the announcement of an agreement between Iran and six other nations, including the United States, to limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for easing sanctions on the Islamic republic. According to Politico, Cornyn has argued for stricter sanctions against Iran.

Cornyn is one of several Republicans who have criticized the deal, but he is (so far) the first to link negotiations with Iran to the problems with the rollout of healthcare.gov and the Affordable Care Act. - AL.com, 11/24/13

President Obama later unveiled details of the agreement, saying, "simply put, they cut off Iran’s most likely paths to a bomb."

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) also weighed in on the agreement, tweeting, "Unless the agreement requires dismantling of the Iranian centrifuges, we really haven't gained anything."

As part of the deal, the U.S. would provide $6 to $7 billion in sanctions relief and in exchange, Iran would agree to stop enriching uranium beyond a 5% level — meaning they would have to dismantle the links between networks of centrifuges, according to The New York Times. - Business Insider, 11/23/13
