A little while ago, I said in a comment on this DKos piece on the 60 minutes puff piece on the NSA, that media Matters should turn their attention to the hollowing out of the news at CBS, now that they have declared mission accomplished in exposing Fox as a political propaganda machine masquerading as a news outlet.
I possess no insider information, but it turns out minds at Media Matters were thinking along the same lines. They have chosen CBS as the 2013 Misinformer of the Year, joining such great luminaries as Murdoch, Rush, Hannity, and of course Fox.
Collectively, and especially because of the Benghazi hoax, these reports earned CBS News the distinction of being named Media Matters' Misinformer of the Year for 2013. This is only the second time in nine years that a mainstream news organization has received that title. The honor has typically been awarded to an individual right-wing media figure from whom we'd expect professional misinformation, such as Glenn Beck in 2009 and Rush Limbaugh in 2012.
From a news organization with a storied past, we expect better.
CBS used to be the gold standard for TV news. Corporate and political interests have taken the name, hollowed out the organization behind it, replacing it with an empty mouthpiece for their sponsors.
What would Andy Rooney have had to say about this,if he were with us today?
