The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

Castro Valley, CA
Continued below the orange coprolite
FIRST observed nesting behavior, in our yard this season, and first ever BEWR pair that we know of here.
Today, 1/26/2014, a pair of Bewick's Wrens started building a nest in a planter affixed to one of the support posts for our patio cover. It is a high traffic location, so they might abandon it and move. As far as we have ever noticed, this is a first for our yard, though many other species nest here.
Other items. FIRST blooming poppies, in nearby Montclair, CA (Northwest corner of the Oakland Hills).
