David Ferguson brings us a transcript of the New Rules segment of "Real Time with Bill Maher,"in Bill Maher: Chris Christie is ’350 pounds of toast.’ Maher said "that this Valentine’s Day, Americans should remember that politicians are like a box of chocolates." When you bite into them, “Democrats are too often soft and gooey and the Republicans are mostly nuts.”
Bill Maher: Chris Christie is ’350 pounds of toast’
The person who really should have heeded the lesson of getting in early, Maher said, is Chris Christie, who blew his chance to run as a vice presidential nominee on the Romney ticket or even to run for president himself.
Now people look at Christie, Maher said, “and think ‘Scandal.’” Whereas, they used to just look at him and think, “Thank god that humans invented clothing.”
“Three months ago, Christie was such a shoo-in for the White House that they were practically measuring which wall to knock down to get the forklift in.”
“But now he’s 350 pounds of toast,” he concluded, “because the longer you stay in, the more likely some bad thing will stick to you. It could be anything, a land deal from 25 years ago, an illegal nanny, the fact that you’re a witch.”
Or, he said, pitching a huge tantrum and not letting people cross a bridge.
As a fellow overweight person, I don't like to see Governor Christie mocked for his weight. He has had gastric band surgery and lost a significant amount and is looking better. It's Governor Christie's alleged abuse of power, extortion, and political bullying that I find more problematic.
In more substantive news, the New Jersey Legislative Select Committee on Investigation received a letter from a former prosecutor asking them to expand their inquiry into allegations that a member of Christie's administration "got a criminal indictment dropped because it targeted Christie supporters."
From ABC, we learn Ex-prosecutor seeks new Chris Christie payback probe:
Former Hunterdon County Assistant Prosecutor Charles Ouslander asked in a letter to the legislative panel to investigate whether politics informed the decision by then-state Attorney General Paula Dow to drop a 43-count indictment in 2010 against the county sheriff, Deborah Trout, a Christie backer.
"As a former career county and state level prosecutor with firsthand knowledge of the events in question, I again express my belief that the actions of the Attorney General were unlawful and, from my vantage point, obviously influenced by improper political considerations," Ouslander wrote.
Ouslander's allegation is at the center of a lawsuit filed by one of his former colleagues, Bennett Barlyn, also an assistant prosecutor in the Hunterdon office in 2010. Barlyn claims he was suspended a day after he complained when the attorney general's office announced it was dismissing the indictment, then fired soon after. ... The indictment charged Trout, Undersheriff Michael Russo and investigator John Falat Jr. with official misconduct, falsifying records and criminal simulation, among other offenses.
It's been a somewhat slow weekend in terms for news about Governor Christie, so I hope this little fix helps out those Christie addicts in withdrawal. If not, please check out my post from last night, Is comparing Chris Christie to Tony Soprano stereotyping Italians and insensitive to mafiosos? This post includes a humorous poll. Cheers.
