For the last few years, I've participated in voter registration drives at the public library, with The League of Women Voters, OFA, and now the Democratic Party of Virginia. We don't get many people registering because most of the people who come to the local libraries are already registered, but I think our presence reminds people that there is an election coming up.
A lot of the voters we've registered have been parents with their young children. I was thinking it would be good to have something to entertain the children while their parent fills out the voter application form. I thought about bringing a few coloring books, but then it occurred to me that this was a good opportunity to make children aware of the voting process and subsequently get their parents more interested in voting in the upcoming election.
I searched the internet to find coloring pages related to the election to share with the Field Organizer for my district. She printed out 20 pages of each, which we brought with us last Saturday. I brought the Crayola 64 package of crayons along.
We asked parents if they'd like a coloring page, and most took one or more pages. Some of the children colored pages right there so that we could hang them from our table.
If you're working voter registration, you should try doing this. It brings a lot more interest (and color) to the registration process.

Since this was a popular activity with kids, I'd like to add some new pages. If you're an artist and interested in helping with the Get Out The Vote effort, please think about creating a coloring page for kids with an election theme.
