Let's see. BBB made an obnoxious comment, twigg reacted with a post, someone else posted something, someone else posted something, and now the atheist v. theist war is out in the open.
I'm both ignorant and apathetic. I don't know whether God exists and I really don't care. The answer to that question does not impact my daily life. It also is of lesser philosophical importance to me than epistemological questions. I tend to be anti-foundationalist and a pragmatist. I like Richard Rorty, Hilary Putnam, have trouble understanding W.V.O. Quinne.
I do belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, a church that ordains and marries GLBTers, has women ministers, and is generally all around progressive. I also skip church often and read the NY Times on Sundays at home.
So if zero is pure atheism and 100 is strong Christian, I'm about at a 51, but it's not a burning question with me. I suspend disbelief because my partner is a member of the church and the people are really good (and mostly very liberal and caring) folks. I like Buddhism and pragmatist philosophy, the early Marx, some tenets of anarchism and socialism. I am a Democrat.
The question of the existence or non-existence of God is not one I spend much time on. My life is just fine no matter how that one turns out, as if one could resolve that dispute.
Nonetheless, the religious wars of Daily Kos must burn themselves out, fueled by outrage.
No doubt you all will resolve this and get back to politics sometime. Wake me up when you do.
