Yesterday, the House voted 273 to 156 to arm the Syrian rebels and then 319 to 108 to pass the Continuing Resolution so amended.
Harry Reid refused to split the vote into two separate ones, so the Senate only cast one vote: for the Continuing Resolution approved by the House, funding for deepening military involvement in Syria and all.
The Senate passed it 78 to 22.
Only 10 members of the Democratic caucus opposed arming the Syrian rebels:
Mark Begich (D-AK)
Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
Pat Leahy (D-VT)
Joe Manchin (D-WV)
Ed Markey (D-MA)
Chris Murphy (D-CT)
Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)
You should thank them for their willingness to buck the administration and the Democratic leadership.
12 Republicans also voted NO:
John Barrasso (R-WY)
Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Mike Enzi (R-WY)
Dean Heller (R-NV)
Mike Lee (R-UT)
Jerry Moran (R-KS)
Rand Paul (R-KY)
Jim Risch (R-ID)
Pat Roberts (R-KS)
Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
In related news, the Senate Democrats plan to postpone any debate on a formal war authorization until after the election.
Earlier, the Senate blocked an effort by Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) to add an amendment to the C.R. that would prohibit Obama from issuing any executive orders on immigration. Senate Democrats successfully tabled it. Five Democrats, however, voted with the Republicans: Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Mark Pryor (D-AR), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).
