The Republicans have crafted an argument claiming that Net Neutrality would hinder Entrepreneurs from creating new businesses, thereby stunting economic recovery and new job creation.
The only business opportunities that Net Neutrality will negatively affect, are the attempts of the established corporate giants to tilt the playing field ever more steeply the in their favor.
To their credit, The Republicans are quite proficient at misrepresenting the intent and substance of any legislature which they oppose. Regardless of the nature of the legislation, they discover some way in which it will negatively affect economic growth, new jobs, or ng>their freedoms. They have also mastered the art of seamlessly incorporating logical fallacies into their discourses, as part of their strategy to misinform the public.
I signed a Petition on the internet in support of Net Neutrality. With the Petition, I included an optional comment encouraging Congressman Boehner to support it. Below the fold, I have included a copy of his email reply to my comment.
Dear Lauren:
Thank you for contacting me regarding net neutrality. It is good to hear from you.
Throughout my career, I have resisted placing additional regulations and taxes on the Internet. Keeping the Internet free from government regulation has fostered countless creative developments and helped businesses grow without fear of government interference.
After two losses in federal court, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced plans to try for a third time to write net neutrality rules. The sad reality is that net neutrality is a regulatory solution in search of a problem.
The FCC already has plenty of tools to make ensure that broadband providers offer consumers fast broadband speeds on fair terms. Net neutrality rules would only allow the federal government to get into the business of regulating the Internet or serving as Internet traffic cop. It's the wrong way to go for the American economy and for American innovation.
As our country struggles to jumpstart our economy, Americans need U.S. companies to continue to invest and create jobs. Broadband providers invest billions every year to bring faster Internet access to all parts of the country, but these investments are threatened by the uncertainty of how overzealous bureaucrats will apply unnecessary regulations. Net neutrality regulations would hurt our economy, stifle private-sector job creation, and undermine American entrepreneurship and innovation. The American people are asking, 'Where are the jobs?' They are not asking for more economically damaging bureaucracy. Federal bureaucrats should not be in the business of regulating the Internet or serving as Internet traffic cop.
Thank you again for contacting me with your thoughts. Please don't hesitate to inform me of your concerns in the future. To sign up for email updates, I invite you to visit my website at http://johnboehner.house.gov.

John A. Boehner
