Several pollsters like the Republicans to take the Senate after this election (and I don't mean 'prefer'), and it was a bit depressing to think about what the next 2 years will look like with that being the case. It won't go well for the GOP, either.
Hear me out on this:
It won't go well for President Obama:
Think he's embattled now? He's lose/lose with a Republican Senate.
A. Obama sticks to his liberal guns and vetoes just about everything that Congress sends him...ergo, he's the blocker-in-chief, anti-democratic tyrant (to a bunch of Repubs who all of a sudden care about democracy), and his name sticks to all Democrats heading into 2015 and 2016.
B. Obama does his 'compromiser-in-chief' routine to the (chagrin or delight) to some here, signing a bunch of terrible bills aimed at propping up the MIC, further exploiting American workers and those reliant on support, etc.
Either way, ouch.
It won't go well for Republicans:
Assuming Obama is more A than B, Republicans won't be able to say they made any more progress in their next 2 years in power than they complain the Democrats didn't in the past several.
They'll also face a HUGE push from their racist, teabag base to 1. Repeal the ACA and 2. impeach Obama. And they'll be damned if they do/damned if they don't:
A. If they yank healthcare access, they'll strongly motivate the Democratic base and sometimes-voters of the young and minority crowd to come out strong in 2015 and especially in 2016
B. If they impeach Obama in the House, the Senate won't convict him (again) and Republicans will have impeached the last two sitting Democratic presidents, setting a huge precedent that will be difficult for the Dems to not throw back at them next time they have both houses, and
C. If they don't do either A or B, their own base will be so pissed that they'll lose donations AND votes for 2015 and 2016.
It won't go well for the American People:
Status-quo isn't even a good option anymore. Median income is falling against inflation and the top 1 and .1%'s. The ACA is good, but needs to continue to be improved upon, not gutted or worse, repealed. Recent gains for both racial minorities and gays/lesbians will be endangered, and people will live in fear of not knowing if their civil rights will be voided the next day Congress is in session. We need to build upon the past 6 years, not stay where we are or worse, fall back.
******
Sorry to be doom-and-gloom, but it is what it is. Please, vote this election and talk to 5 others to convince them to vote, too. The next 2 years depends on it.
