Who would object to taking away her mother in handcuffs? The GOP, of course.
Six years after promising to deliver, President Barack Obama will finally have an announcement
on immigration on Thursday, in a prime-time 8 PM ET address to the nation.
Obama's facebook teaser offered no details, so we're in the realm of speculation and blind leaks:
Administration officials say a keystone of the announcement will be allowing the parents of American citizens, who are undocumented immigrants themselves, to remain in the United States without the threat of deportation. That would include the parents of legal residents, but not the parents of children eligible for delayed deportation under a rule Obama enacted in 2012.
This would affect a small percentage of the current undocumented population—about 3.5 million tops—but would obviously have huge humanitarian implications. Nuclear families should not be split up by immigration authorities.
Of course, anything short of "shoot them illegals on sight" will create the biggest shit-show from the GOP you've ever seen. They'll even be screaming about impeachment.
Because, you know, keeping families together is deeply offensive to the party of pretend "family values."
