With Wednesday's release of the torture report, it will surprise no one to learn that former Vice President Dick Cheney immediately
scurried over to Fox News to proclaim that the report was "full of crap." And in doing so, proved only one thing: That Dick Cheney is full of crap.
It did in fact produce actionable intelligence that was vital in the success of keeping the country safe from further attacks," he said.
Oh,
really?
The committee reviewed 20 of the most frequent and prominent examples of purported "successes" that the CIA has attributed to the use of its enhanced interrogation techniques. Each of those examples was found to be wrong.
Dick also
denied:
... that the program tortured individuals, and that the Bush administration had taken deliberate steps to avoid doing so.
Never mind that in addition to waterboarding, the "program" included mock executions, beatings, threats of violence against family members, forcing people to stand for hours on broken feet, sleep deprivation of up to 180 hours, and "rectal rehydration." And what about that "rectal rehydration?
"I don't know anything about that specific instance, I can't speak to that," he said.
It wasn't a specific instance, it was at least
five specific instances. And let's call "rectal rehydration" what it really is ... rape. So along with torture, add that to your resume, Dick.
Oh, and one more thing to remember as you hear or read about Dick making the media rounds to declare the report is "full of crap."
He also said he hadn't actually read the report.
Of course. Why would he need to read a report about the torture program he helped write?
