Oops?
House Speaker John Boehner continues to show his flare for leading his party into
blazingly unpopular positions.
A large majority of Americans believe that Republican congressional leaders should not have invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak to Congress without consulting the White House, according to a new CNN/ORC survey.
The nationwide poll, released Tuesday, shows 63% of Americans say it was a bad move for congressional leadership to extend the invitation without giving President Barack Obama a heads up that it was coming. Only 33% say it was the right thing to do.
So let's see, so far John Boehner's attempt to
sabotage the American president's foreign policy has caused a worsening of the American-Israeli diplomatic relationship, controversies in both nations as to whether the move is an attempt to interfere in upcoming Israeli elections, is likely to curb future information-sharing with Israel over the state of American negotiations with Iran, and is opposed by nearly two-thirds of the American population.
Even for John Boehner, that's quite the hat trick. It probably will soon be eclipsed by Republicans temporarily shutting down the Department of Homeland Security, but until that time it's easily the most bungling, incompetent thing House Republicans have done in several months.
And Netanyahu hasn't even given his speech yet. Heaven help Republicans when he does.
