The 2015 EPIC Glacier National Park Meet Up will be held on June 26, 27, 28. We’ll center the activities out of the Apgar area on the west side of the Park.
Camping in the Park:
Within the Park, there are two campgrounds in the Apgar area, neither of which have any RV hookups. This means boondocking for RV people (no power, no water, no wifi).
Apgar Campground is situated on the southern tip of Lake McDonald in beautiful Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana. Apgar is the largest campground in Glacier National Park. Pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes are found throughout the park. Amenities within the campground include flush toilets and drinking water. Picnic tables and fire rings are provided, and a campground host is on-site. . Apgar Village is just minutes away, offering a visitor center, gift shops, a general store and casual restaurant. Ranger programs are held nightly at the amphitheater. Lake McDonald is just a short stroll from the campground.
Apgar is the campground we usually use. However, it is first-come, first-served and it does fill fairly early. We usually try to get there in the morning to find a spot.
Apgar also offers 10 group sites that accommodate 9-24 people each. Group campgrounds at Apgar may be reserved: Reservations at group sites are available for parties of 9-24 people only. At the present time, only one of the ten group sites is available for the dates we will be there.
Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park, and one of two campgrounds that takes reservations. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3,500 feet; this area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Fish Creek is heavily forested with plenty of shade. Several sites have views of Lake McDonald.
The campground is large with 178 campsites. The sites are relatively spread apart and provide privacy for both RV and tent campers. Potable water is accessible in the campground, and restroom facilities have flush toilets and sinks with running water.
