When's one crappy budget not enough? When you have no idea whether you can marshal the votes to pass anything at all. So Boehner and his top lieutenants are weighing a strategy to let House Republicans vote on two crappy budget bills—with the winner becoming the party's master plan. Or something like that. Here's Jake Sherman
on the scheme:
Under the plan, House Budget Chairman Tom Price’s (R-Ga.) budget would get a vote, as would a nearly identical spending plan that includes more money for defense. The one that nets a higher vote total would become the House Republican plan.
Republicans have struggled to craft a budget that would get the support of staunch fiscal conservatives and defense hawks. This strategy is seen as a way to bridge the gap between the two factions.
Wow. 'Strategy,' eh? For real—can you even imagine Nancy Pelosi doing this as Speaker? No, because she actually has a handle on her caucus and knows how to count votes.
Anyway, John, we totally support you! It's fool proof—surely one budget or the other will pass and then people will wonder why no one's ever been desperate enough to think of this before.
Unless, neither passes. Is that too fantastical to hope for? Nope. Not with this caucus.
