So most of you guys, if you've been following me since my days being the Dir. of Visual Communications at Liberal America, know I created this graphic right after the Newtown Massacre on Dec. 14, 2012. Sure, I assumed I would be updating these horrific numbers a few times, but I also believed that Americas were better than we are... and at least some reasonable firearm legislation would have been enacted by now. Then this meme would have long ago been retired. Sadly I was mistaken.
Today's number of gun deaths: 82,033
Using the most recent CDC estimates for yearly deaths by guns in the United States, it is likely this number is accurate in referring to people who have died from guns in the U.S. since the Newtown shootings. Compare that number to the number of deaths reported in the news, and you can see how undertold and necessary the story of gun violence in America actually is.
What can you do? Plenty... start off by sharing these numbers which came out today. Awareness is alway a good thing.
