Enough already! Can we PLEASE withhold all the kibitzing about whether Bernie can win or not, whether he really means to win or not, whether it hurts Hillary or not. My God, the GOP has over 20 candidates, certainly we can entertain with an open mind just two…well OK, three w/Martin O'malley---who better learn to churn some butter fast.
This will be a short diary, the kind I write when I just want to reduce things to a good sauce. Understand my wish is not your command, but you can't blame a gal for her hopes for simplicity and clarity…which, not to overdo the cooking analogy, is what good food and good politics is all about.
In the famous words of Rhett Butler, "frankly I don't give a damn." No I really don't care if Bernie can win or not, and I don't care about the polls right now, and I don't care about all the fears of those who think he might just pull this out and leave us unelectable, and I don't care what Chuck Todd says, or to quote Spirew Agnew in an unlikely tip of the hat---whatever all the "nattering nabobs of negativity" have to say.
The way I see it, we progressives FINALLY have someone out front, with a progressive platform, whose going to have plenty of space to voice our concerns, for the first time in I don't know how long. AND, someone whose had a lot of practice at it, and has a confidence in himself I rarely see when a politician faces the electorate.
You know why? I think it's because he doesn't give a damn either, he's just going to say what he means, and mean what he says. And if that doesn't win the day in the election---well, there's many other ways to win the day.
In fact, I was actually thinking today, after years of thinking our elections go on too long, that I am for the first time GLAD this one has started early and in earnest. Lots of time to get to know other ideas, and Bernie, who much of America does not know, and does not know his message.
I mean, really, the right has too long dominated the scene with their many and various voices. Seems there's nothing too outrageous from the right for the media to cover ad nauseam, AND take seriously.
Well. OUR TURN. And thank God, or Buddah, or timing, or the stars above---take your pick and expand on this--- we FINALLY have a VOICE, and in Bernie Sanders, some pretty well chiseled elbows to bump into others' ribs.
I don't think he will suffer an early burn out, like Howard Dean, as much as I admire what he contributed. I think Bernie is a long haul guy, used to being underestimated and unheard, and it's only sharpened his wick. Hell, I have wondered for years why the right has barely bothered to take a shot at him. It's actually really hard to find a right winger quote that even bothers to mention Bernie Sanders…in the past. I think that's over now, and I welcome it.
LOL, these days they're just hoping he'll win so they can win. What the fuck ever.
I say we're 16 months out from the presidential, and it will be what it will be. But in the mean time, lets just CHEER an alternative voice. Let's CHEER hearing what we've been wanting to hear forever, from someone.
Run, Bernie, run! And let the chips fall where they may.
