Jon Stewart mocked Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia using his own words. Stewart used several of his opinions and statements to illustrate his blatant hypocrisy and dishonesty by playing clips with snippets from Antonin Scalia's Obamacare dissenting opinion. "We should start calling this law SCOTUScare. ... opinion's showy profundities are often profoundly incoherent. ... The Supreme Court ... has descended ... to mystical aphorisms of the fortune cookie."
"The crankiness of Scalia's insults runs inverse to his intellectual consistency," Jon Stewart said. "Here is the specific problem he had with the gay equality rule."
Stewart then played another clip with Scalia's own words. Scalia said the decision ignored the will of the voters. Of course that is false as voters by a substantial majority now support same-sex marriage. He called the Supreme Court, "a select, patrician, highly unrepresentative panel of nine."
Head below for the clip and more.
Jon Stewart pointed out that while Justice Scalia implied that the Supreme Court should not overturn the will of the voters, he had no problem doing that with his
Obamacare vote inasmuch as most people
do not want it overturned. Stewart also reminded us that while Americans overwhelmingly want money out of politics, Scalia had no problem going against the people in the
Citizens United case or the
McCutcheon case. Groups like
Move to Amend and
Coffee Party USA are building grassroots movements that are fighting to mitigate this atrocity.
Justice Scalia had no problem destroying parts of the Voting Rights Act which most Americans support. He even implied that it was the court's job to go against the people as politicians would not on certain issues. He also had no problem appointing George W. Bush president of the United States even though he lost the election. The disaster that was the Bush presidency with the loss of life and treasure he effected on the country is the direct result of the actions of conservatives on the Supreme Court.
Antonin Scalia's pomposity is just that. It is the utterances of a dishonest ideologue. This man is the guardian of the American plutocracy and a clear and present danger to the country based on many of his decisions.
