I'm pretty sure that many folks, like myself, see Bernie Sanders and think, "he'd be great, but it'll never happen".
I think that for a variety of reasons, including most of the ones you read on a daily basis in newspapers and blogs across the country:
- He's a self proclaimed "socialist"
- He's a New Englander
- His message asks listeners to be smart, not just feel good
- He's going to say that he'll raise taxes on someone
- He'll probably never appeal to women and African Americans as much as Clinton
- The corporate media won't get behind him
- Corporation and banks won't get behind him
- etc.
- etc.
- etc.
There's obviously arguments all of those things, and as a Sanders supporter at heart, I would love them to all either be untrue or meaningless, but alas they aren't.
BUT
There IS another reality, which is as clear as the nose on your face: Republican's are not going to win the Presidency in 2016.
So, whoever the Dems run will win, and yes I'd put a bet on that.
So finally, to that end, it seems pretty clear that there's only a few options for Sanders supporters, and the best one I can think of is more like an ultimatum:
Nominate Bernie Sanders - who will win if he gets the nod, or I'll sit home and not vote.
The biggest issue really, is the air of inevitability that Clinton has. That's going to be the "A" narrative up until the convention. That needs to be turned on it's head and the sooner the better.
So join me - though I doubt many will, because no one really wants President Cruz of Trump - and say, "Sanders or no one!"
