Asshole. And crappy libertarian to boot.
Rand Paul can't let Ted Cruz get all the
headlines for being an obstructionist asshole, he's getting in on the act. This time, though, it's all about Planned Parenthood and abortion and the
totally unrelated transportation funding bill.
Paul, a Republican presidential candidate, released multiple statements earlier Friday promising to use "all legislative vehicles" to "defeat and defund Planned Parenthood" next week.
In statements on both his Senate and campaign websites, Paul doesn't directly mention the pending highway and transit legislation. But it is the next big ticket item on the Senate's to-do list with a procedural vote set for Tuesday.
"The recent revelation that this taxpayer-funded organization is selling body parts of the unborn further proves that this agency deserves our scorn not our tax dollars," he said in a statement. "I plan to do whatever I can to stop them and will introduce an amendment to pending Senate legislation to immediately strip every dollar of Planned Parenthood funding."
It is increasingly looking like this debunked video was
a coordinated attack that House Republicans at least knew was coming, but Paul has to get in on the action and into the spotlight with it. Because that's what he does. As bad as what House Republicans are doing in this attack on Planned Parenthood is, Paul's threat to basically shut down the Senate over it is even more obnoxious.
And can we just take this moment to recognize that the great "libertarian" Rand Paul is only a libertarian when it comes to the bros? He sure as hell doesn't have a problem with big government getting all up in our lady parts, now does he. But what Paul lacks as a libertarian, he sure makes up for in opportunism.
