The Denver Post reports that 29-year-old Ke'Arre Stewart was one of the two civilians and police officer who were murdered during an attack at the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs Saturday. Stewart, who graduated from La Vega High School in Texas in 2004, was an Army veteran who served one tour of duty in Iraq. He was the father of two children:
Amburh Butler, who said she had been friends with Stewart since they were 11, said:
"He was a stand-up guy," she said. "If you were hungry, he fed you. If you were cold and needed a ride, he was just there. He was a good friend and an amazing listener."
Butler said she found out Stewart was among the victims Friday when numerous friends from their high school began texting and calling her. She set up a Go Fund Me account for Stewart to pay for burial expenses in Texas.
The other civilian victim, according to Hawaii News Now, was Jennifer Markosky, a 36-year-old mother of two who grew up in Hawaii but moved to the mainland some years ago:
Family members identified the woman as Jennifer Markovsky, a 1997 Waianae High School graduate.
Her family said she was at the Planned Parenthood clinic supporting a friend. Her friend was shot in the hand.
"The family is grieving. We're all shocked," one of Markovsky's relatives said.
On Facebook, Markovsky's father, John Ah King mourned his daughter's loss.
"Life was too short my beloved daughter," he wrote. "I was waiting to see you soon."
"She was the most lovable person," Ah-King told the Post from his home in Hawaii. "So kind-hearted, just always there when I needed her."
The police officer who was killed was identified Saturday. He was 44-year-old Garrett Swasey, a six-year veteran of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police department, who was the father of two.
Condolences to the kin and friends of all three victims.
