Bernie arrived in Puerto Rico. He was greeted by former governor Anibal Acevedo Vilá (PPD) and by a member of Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives, Luis Vega Ramos (PPD). He will have 3 events on Monday. The puerto rican press reports he will stay until Tuesday.
The first event will take place at 9am at the Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín. A non-profit organization that bear the name of the founder of Puerto Rico’s present status (Estado Libre Asociado) and founding leader of the present governing party Partido Popular Democrático.
The second event will be at a school in Guaynabo, Escuela Juan Ponce de León, at 3pm.
The third event will be at the Universidad de Puerto Rico main campus in Río Piedras at 7pm, the event will take place at the university’s theater.
The Sanders campaign in Puerto Rico will be different from the one in the US and unincorporated territories. The slogan word Convergencia (convergence) is being used, meaning he is the only US politician able to unite the pro Sovereignty, pro Independence and pro Statehood voters, all united behind Sanders to resolve the political status of the island with a decolonization agenda that includes a binding referendum.
The US democratic party primary will be held the same day, June 5th, as the Puerto Rican parties primaries (Partido Popular Democrático and the Partido Nuevo Progresista, the other two remaining parties Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño and the Partido del Pueblo Trabajador are not holding primaries)
