Apparently, the Debate Commission may use the “Top 30” questions submitted from the public for the next debate (Town Hall format). I just went to the site
presidentialopenquestions.com/…
and noticed that the biggest vote-getters so far are anti-progressive. For example, Number 1 is “How will you ensure the 2nd amendment is protected? Too much crime is blamed on the tool, not the person. How will you protect law abiding citizens to protect themselves.” Number 2 is: “Will you support a voter ID system that insures only US Citizens can vote?” In this country, we need to show IDs to drive, make any financial transaction, get medical care, even attend your party conventions. Why is it controversial, or racist, to require IDs to vote?”
The header on the site states the following:
Search and vote for questions about issues that are important to you! The "town hall" debate will feature questions from the Internet -- ABC and CNN moderators agreed to consider the Top 30 questions voted up on this site! Watch the debate right here on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 9pm EDT to find out if they chose yours! NOTE: Questions must not name or allude to a candidate and must be able to be posed to either candidate.
I have some hope we may be saved by the fact that it says moderators may consider, but if you read the questions so far (you can sort by number of votes) they seem pretty skewed to me.
I don’t know if anyone else has posted about this, but I believe we need to get this out to the progressive world, submit our own questions, and vote!
