NBC is letting it be known that their upcoming Saturday Night Live episode will be featuring a spoof on the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Over the years, SNL has had a strong influence on pop culture while throwing in a twist of humor (or the full lemon). The show tends to lean to the left as when they mocked and made a fool of Sarah Palin, which might have lingered in the minds of some voters and helped President Obama win. But they also mocked Al Gore little more than they maybe should have when he was running against George W. Bush in the 2001 presidential election. The cast made Gore seem dull and monotone and perhaps stupid. Although he can sound monotone, he is one of the most intelligent and passionate activists and Democrats out there.
During the Democratic primaries, SNL came down HARD on Hillary and they were clearly vying for Bernie Sanders to win the nomination. In fact, they were so indignant and insulting to Hillary, I stopped watching for the rest of the season. It made me cringe to see them planting some of the right-wing lies and conspiracy theories into the minds of their viewers. Now that the election is between Hillary and Trump, I’m betting SNL will cut Clinton some slack—if anything to help keep Donald Trump from entering the Oval Office.
Hillary will once again be played by Kate McKinnon, but this week Donald Trump will be played by Alec Baldwin, who is usually played by Darrel Hammond. Baldwin claims to be liberal, but sometimes comes off as mean when he’s not managing his anger well. Perhaps he’ll redeem himself this Saturday night. That would be nice.

Here’s hoping SNL makes the right moves given how crucial this Election Day will be.
In many states, any registered voter can request an absentee ballot. Check to see if you can get one and vote early this year.
