Thank you all for the recent surge in support for my campaign. You have enabled me to add critical mailings and rallies I would not have been able to afford without your support. I just submitted my quarterly report to the FEC last night—I am the committee treasurer as well as the candidate.
It is a lot of work, but it puts me in the position to be in absolute control of my campaign’s finances. We have never taken money from any organization, only contributions from individual citizens.
When I am elected, I will never take money from organizations. I believe that PAC money, special interest money, and any money other than one citizen contributing to another has no place in our electoral process.
My summary of the FEC report I submitted yesterday: my campaign has spent or committed just over $30k through September 30th. About 20 percent of that came from individual donations, and the rest came from my savings.
Of the amount I contributed personally, the law allows me to characterize some as a loan to my committee. I have done that for about 34 percent of the total committee budget (~$10k). Although that will show up in the report as a “debt” the committee owes, it is basically a loan from me to my committee. I am perfectly willing to re-characterize that money as a contribution if that is what it takes to win this election.
I am profoundly grateful to all of you for your support. I encourage you to watch my televised debate with Congressman Chaffetz on Wednesday, Oct 19th at 6PM Mountain Time (8PM Eastern). You can watch the debate via live stream at www.utahdebatecommission.org. Check out this little cell phone video I published to get the word out about the debate:
Thank you!
Respectfully,
