Dave Brat TV Ad is Mostly Untrue

Have you seen Dave Brat’s TV ad? In it Dave brags he has kept his campaign promises. He refers to the legislation he has pushed since he has been in Congress.

But, let’s look at the truth. According to a congressional website, Dave Brat has sponsored 21 pieces of legislation. Two of those were amendments to other member’s bills. Both were defeated; one by voice vote, one by a roll call vote in which 100 Republicans voted against Brat. Of the remaining bills and resolutions that Dave sponsored, 18 have never been voted out of committee. Only one of Dave’s bills has become law, H.R. 2693. That law named the arboretum at the Richmond Veterans Hospital after Phyllis Galanti.

So Dave’s total legislative accomplishment has been one ceremonial bill enacted into law. Dave Brat calls this keeping his campaign promises. I judge his ad as “mostly untrue.”
