Must read Harvard Business Review article for all of us as we reflect and regroup. We don’t have to pander to any racism but we still need to retain enough of the white working class vote in MI, PA and WI for 2020 with a message of economic populism even as we wait for the demographics to turn. Telling them we will give them sick leave and minimum wage is not enough and I am worried that we will emphasize that too much over how we create jobs. But you guys can read it for yourselves.
Main points from the article
1) Understand That Working Class Means Middle Class, Not Poor
2) Understand Working-Class Resentment of the Poor
3) Understand How Class Divisions Have Translated into Geography
4) If You Want to Connect with White Working-Class Voters, Place Economics at the Center
5) Avoid the Temptation to Write Off Blue-Collar Resentment as Racism
I will be writing another diary on the PA, MI, WI margins and what we can do to overcome them in 2020 but for now here is the article.
