On this date, in both 2014, as well as in 2015, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day shared its first two profiles of Michael Burgess, the U.S. House Representative from Texas’ 26th Congressional District whose claim to fame was discussing masturbating fetuses touching themselves in the womb for their own pleasure as part of his “pro-life” arguments before Congress. Burgess has also openly discussed the impeachment of Barack Obama (declining to comment WHAT the impeachable offense he committed was), going on FOX News to call for witch hunts into the attacks in Benghazi, amongst other tacky quotes and votes. Not surprisingly, he also bought into the Center for Medical Progress’ “sting” video and tried defunding Plannned Parenthood around this time a year ago.
Burgess is the same old frowny sack of nuts he’s always been:
- September 18th, 2015: Rep. Burgess votes for a bill with most House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, based on highly edited “sting” videos submitted by a Pro-Life advocacy group that have been repeatedly debunked by investigators.
- November 19th, 2015: Burgess votes for the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act, reacting to the terror attacks in Paris by jihadists from France and Belgium by trying to create greater restrictions to keep out Syrian refugees, of whom exactly zero were involved in those attacks.
- February 2nd, 2016: Michael Burgess votes for HR 3762, the 61st attempt by Congressional Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (which is still working better than was predicted).
- May 19th, 2016: Rep. Burgess votes against House Amendment 1079, which would have prohibited the use of federal funds for discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. So if you were wondering, yes, he’s pro-discrimination, all right.
Michael Burgess is seeking his eighth term in Congress in the 2016 elections, and after dominating the GOP Primary for his seat, he now faces Democrat Erick Mauck in the general election. Texas’ 26th District has an overall +20 Republican lean, so Mauck’s prospects of unseating Rep. Burgess are far from promising. Burgess has declined to even debate him, feeling like he’s got his race well in the bag, even if he runs away from the challenger. We’ll assume he spends the night dreaming of masturbating fetuses, or something.
