Soon after Donald Trump’s inauguration, a late-night comedian in the Netherlands made fun of Trump’s “America First” claim with a video that quickly went viral. The video, by Arjen Lubach of Zondag met Lubach (“Sunday with Lubach”) was an “introduction” to the country that made fun of Trump in countless ways. It staked out the claim that if America was going to be first, the Netherlands should surely be second. One of its arguments was that since Holland was founded by William of Orange, it’s a natural to follow the orange-skinned Trump.
That sparked a movement by other European talk-show hosts to come up with their own videos on why their countries should be second. All of the “tourism” videos were combined on the EverySecondCounts map, where viewers could check out each country’s argument. For instance, Slovenia wanted “sloppy seconds” because it was Melania’s original home.
So now Lubach has taken on the NRA: “Say nay to NRA (nonsensical rifle addiction).” It’s gotten more than 1 million views so far and may reach the heights of the original spoof.
Here’s a snippet:
Operator: 911, what’s your emergency?
Caller: I’m wounded! I need thoughts and prayers!
Operator: I’ll send an ambulance, sir.
Caller: No! I said thoughts and prayers!
As it concludes: Bullet points don’t kill people, ignorance kills people.
