Received this e-mail today from former Michigan Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer’s (D. MI) gubernatorial campaign:
Michigan has seen the damage firsthand when people like Betsy DeVos prioritize privatization and profits over preparing our kids to succeed.
And now DeVos has a national platform to continue to undermine our public education system, not just here in Michigan, but across the country.
Making sure our kids can prosper right here in Michigan is at the top of my mind as a mother and will be at the top of my agenda as governor. This week is American Education Week, and it’s time to rededicate ourselves to making our public education system once again the envy of the country.

Providing our kids with a great education is the best thing we can do as Americans to ensure that our children, and our nation, can succeed.
It all begins with education -- the foundation for growing a strong economy, having an informed and engaged citizenry, and preparing future generations to solve problems and become leaders themselves.
To do that, we have to commit to strengthening our public education system, not privatizing our classrooms and cutting salaries for teachers -- exactly the type of failed policies that we’ve witnessed in our state from people like Betsy DeVos.
Every child deserves the same chance to learn and grow -- no matter what zip code they live in -- and I can’t think of a better time to commit to making sure our kids have every opportunity for success than during American Education Week.
Help me stop Betsy DeVos’ continued attacks on our public school system. Add your name to join me! >>
From early childhood programs to making college affordable for all Michiganders, I’ve stood up for our students and for the teachers who give so much to make sure those students can succeed in and out of the classroom.
Thanks for standing with me,
Gretchen
