Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich’s (D. NM) re-election campaign:
Yesterday, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the Senate to strengthen our nation’s background check system for buying a gun.
I’m proud to co-sponsor the Fix NICS Act, a bill that will help ensure criminal history and domestic violence records are submitted to the national background check system.
Too many states and government agencies are failing to submit these records. That means guns are ending up in the wrong hands, and we’ve seen how that can lead to devastating results.
That’s why this legislation is so important, and why I need your help to make sure Congress passes it.
Will you join me and become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Fix NICS Act? We need to show this bill has the support of the American people to help end gun violence. Please, add your name today.
Like many New Mexicans, hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation are part of who I am. And all of us know there are common sense solutions to keep guns from falling into the wrong hands, and it is time we take meaningful steps to enact them.
If, like me, you want Congress to act to reduce gun violence, then I need your support right now.
Become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Fix NICS Act today and urge Congress to pass it.
Thanks,
Martin
