I attended the Denver Protect Our Muslim Neighbors Rally yesterday in Denver, Colorado. Let me say that activism, love and tolerance are alive and well in America! And it is not going away. We are a nation of immigrants, we have laws that protect free speech and the right to peaceful assembly. We are a nation that continues to strive for a more perfect Union. And we will not be stopped! As with the sister Women’s March in Denver, I am posting some photos for your enjoyment, inspiration and emotional soul. At one point in the rally the Star Spangled Banner was sung and a surge of patriotism swelled through the voices of thousands and some tears were shed. I was struck by the fact that, in spirit, standing with us were the souls of millions of men and women who sacrificed their lives in order to protect our Democracy at home and abroad. They sacrificed to protect our values, our basic tenets, of freedom, liberty and justice for all! Their sacrifice must not be in vain! It would be blasphemy to allow their names, their memory, and their sacrifice to be slandered by the current band of fascist fools leading our government.
In order to fuel the resistance and to continue to fight the fascism and injustice that has spread within our government we must continue to protest and in the spirit of the words of John Lewis “We Have an Obligation to Do Something ... a mission and a mandate, to speak up, speak out and get in good trouble."
We must speak out, write, blog, donate, protest and continue to unite in our common cause! And we must in tandem shout loud and clear to NEVER AGAIN allow authoritarian tyranny to infest our own soil jeopardizing the human rights and welfare of our nation and that of our global neighbors.
At the rally I was struck by the love, tolerance, kindness and creativity of all the people present. I have uploaded, for your viewing pleasure, photos of some of the very creative and powerful signs that I was privileged to see there. I proudly wore my pussy hat, gifted by my dear friend Edith who found that women around the US are feverishly knitting them, to keep up with the demand.
Thank you for reading and enjoy the photos, feel free to share and distribute them!
