New Poll Finds Democrat Rob Quist Ahead In Montana Congressional Race

On May 25, Montanans will vote to elect a new Congressman after Ryan Zinke was selected by Donald Trump to be the Secretary of the Interior. A Google Consumer Survey that I ran of Montana’s at-large district showed the Democratic candidate, Rob Quist, running seven points ahead of the Republican candidate, Greg Gianforte. Quist won 48% of respondents, Gianforte 41%, and Libertarian Mark Wicks 11%.

Rob Quist, a famous local musician in Montana, is running on a left wing platform. A supporter of Bernie Sanders in the primary, he supports single payer health-care, is pro-choice, and opposes cuts in public education. Greg Gianforte is a businessman who has run for office in Montana before, losing the governor’s race to Steve Bullock last November.

Donald Trump’s unpopularity, coupled with Montana’s tendency to vote for populist Democrats, gives the left a real shot at picking up a congressional seat come this May.
