When asked about Jon Ossoff by the Wall Street Journal, instead of saying that the Democratic Party has an excellent chance of taking back the House by winning the seat in Georgia with Jon Ossoff, Bernie Sanders said he didn’t know if Ossoff was a progressive.
We need full-throated advocacy for the Democratic Party, Sen. Sanders. Since you are the Democratic chair for outreach, and we can’t have any more of this “demurring” or wondering if the Democratic candidate in a winnable district is a “progressive.”
We fully know that Ossoff is a progressive. He supports the following:
- A woman’s right to choose
- Support of small businesses
- Fixing and expanding on Obamacare
- Protecting civil liberties
- Protecting Medicare and Social Security
- Criminal justice reform
We have a very winnable House race in Georgia within the next two months, and the last thing we need is Sen. Sanders weighing in and demurring on whether candidates in winnable districts are “progressives” or fit his ideal of a progressive.
We cannot impeach Trump and pass a progressive agenda without a Democratic majority in Congress. Period.
