Will Karen Handel appear with Donald Trump before the general public as she campaigns for the House in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District? She’s still not saying, even though Trump will be in Atlanta on Friday. Will she let him hold a fundraiser for her? That’s a different story! Sure, Handel will take Trump-raised money.
The fundraiser is scheduled for an Atlanta site after Trump’s keynote speech at a National Rifle Association convention at the Georgia World Congress Center, and it’s likely to bring a tide of cash for Handel’s campaign. A ticket starts at $2,700 and a host sponsorship will cost $25,000.
The invitation started making the rounds among GOP donors in Georgia on Tuesday evening. The Handel campaign confirmed the invitation but declined further comment.
Okay, make that “Handel will take Trump-raised money but her campaign doesn’t want to talk about it.” But it’s not that she’s running from Trump, no sirree. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein, after separating herself from Trump during the primary, Handel has “more aggressively embraced Trump since locking in a runoff spot.” Why, “The two talked by phone last week and she said in an interview she would “of course” accept his help,” and if that’s not an aggressive embrace I don’t know what is.
Of course, if she gets to Congress Handel will be one more Republican vote for the Trump agenda.
Karen Handel has Donald Trump. Jon Ossoff needs you. Can you give $3?
