And, as it turned out, he was damned right to be uneasy. But I notice some of the same commenters who pooh-poohed that diary are pooh-poohing this one.
Egberto is a perceptive blogger, notwithstanding that the title of his latest piece is more provocative than helpful in explaining the gist of his opinion.
In both diary threads, there are commenters who dismiss Egberto as a “concern troll.” In this new diary, one of Egberto’s fellow frontpage writers, Armando, comments:
This is the same old same old stupid shit from Egberto.
Another commenter suggests that Egberto has no clue what voters are really thinking, which is also reminiscent of the comments he received in that old diary.
Not sure when was the last time you were out protesting, especially in a deep red state but TrumpRussia story resonates more than anything right now.
Egberto gently disabuses the notion that he’s living in an ivory tower:
I lead protests out here several times a week sometimes my friend. I am a part of the major Houston Indivisible movement. I am trying to get us to do things that will work. I work with people from the suburbs, to the barrios, to the ghettos, and my show reaches many in Appalachia who talk as well. And I can tell you that being right is not enough. You have to reach these people. Russia will always be there for us to unearth. If we don’t get the House and the Senate in 2018, it won’t matter.
One commenter actually writes:
Egberto, this diary is so dangerously off the mark, you should delete it and post an apology diary.
He responds:
My diaries are not intended to be a popularity contest. While I believe strongly that crowdsourcing ultimately provides better answers, injection of other ideas especially where the current modus operandi has failed is a good thing.
The fact is that while many of us continue doing things the same way and expecting a different result or stuck between the parameters we choose for discourse, we have failed miserably from the counties to the states to now the Feds.
I will continue to try to reach those I feel I can reach. There is a reason we are not winning with a Democratic Platform that is best for 99% of Americans. And much of it has to do with a special type of arrogance.
Keep at it, Egberto! I don’t agree with every one of your diaries, but that’s a feature not a bug!
We aren’t helped by an echo chamber where smart folks expressing their concerns are dismissed as fools or concern trolls.
