Daily Kos Expands Political Program for Redistricting Fight
Organization hires Carolyn Fiddler for statehouse coverage and media relations
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Daily Kos Founder and Publisher Markos Moulitsas announced the hire of Carolyn Fiddler as the organization's political editor and senior communications advisor. The addition of Fiddler's expertise to Daily Kos' rapidly expanding organization underscores the site's increased emphasis on state legislative elections in advance of the next round of redistricting and will highlight Daily Kos' expanding impact on campaigns and elections at every level of the ballot.
"The future of progressive politics in the United States is rooted in redistricting, and the hire of Carolyn Fiddler puts Daily Kos on the cutting edge of the effort to position Democrats for success in that effort," said Moulitsas. "The path to redistricting power runs through state capitols, and Fiddler's expertise in statehouse politics and elections will empower the Daily Kos community to expand our impact on down-ballot elections by expanding our endorsement program, increasing scrutiny on Republicans' regressive agenda, and highlighting crucial statehouse races."
"Daily Kos' impact on elections this cycle is already setting records, and Fiddler's addition to our staff will expand the recognition our community is receiving for its landmark engagement in Democratic campaigns," said Political Director David Nir. "Her work will help us put our tools in the hands of an even greater audience of progressive activists, and her singular knowledge of state politics will put Daily Kos on the vanguard of the fight to rebuild Democratic power in state legislatures and prevent another decade of extreme GOP gerrymandering."
Fiddler will join Daily Kos on June 5 and anchor the organization's presence in Washington, D.C. She has worked in state politics for the better part of a decade, most recently as the national communications director at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC). She previously worked as political communications director for The Atlas Project and as a strategic communications specialist with the American Federation of Teachers after her initial stint at DLCC as communications director and a couple of years with Media Matters for America, where she was director of external affairs. Fiddler graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.A. in international relations and political science, and she received her J.D. from the College of William & Mary. Prior to law school, Fiddler worked for the Democratic Party of Virginia. She's from a small town in Virginia you've never heard of, and her comic book collection is probably bigger than yours.
Daily Kos, founded in 2002, is the nation's largest online progressive community, with 10 million unique visitors a month and an email membership of over 3 million. Already in 2017, the Daily Kos community has given $3.6 million to Democratic candidates in small-dollar, grassroots contributions.
