“I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!”That was Trump’s Friday morning Tweet to the world and his attorneys must be reaching for smelling salts and wondering for the nth time how their client can be so stupid:
“It’s clear that this tweet has not been vetted by his [Trump’s] attorney,” said former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti. “In addition to confirming that he is under investigation, the tweet makes a factual statement regarding the president’s decision to fire James Comey, which is a subject of the investigation. You can bet that when the president testifies regarding his role in Comey’s firing, he will be asked about this tweet.
”A frustrated senior Trump administration official quipped in response to the tweet, “Has anyone read him his Miranda rights?” The implication being that Trump would do well to remain silent on the issue of his own criminal investigation.
“He’s furious at Rosenstein, but the list of his people who enrage him is ever-growing,” a longtime Trump confidant, who recently spoke to the president, told The Daily Beast. “He has no qualms about throwing [Rosenstein] under a bus.”
Rosenstein threatened to resign the last time that Trump did something stupid and then blamed him, on the occasion of James Comey’s firing, when the White House was characterizing Rosenstein as Comey’s hatchet man — then Trump contradicted his own White House staff, again, and told Lester Holt that he would have fired Comey anyway, regardless of Rosenstein’s memo. Even after that debacle, Trump can’t keep his mouth shut or his twitter finger holstered.
Trump is fumbling and flailing and not just with his thumbs on twitter, typing “covfefe.” He's bouncing off the ropes. Fine, let him. A heavyweight named Mueller is warming up and when he and Trump are in the ring together it will be a match that will be described by historians as "epic."
