Donald Trump has always maintained that the Muslim Ban was not in fact a Muslim Ban; and he also blustered that he was “ready to take it to the Supreme Court.” He might want to seek out a second legal opinion on that premise, because he just blew his case with his stupid tweet in the wake of the London Bridge tragedy, and the ACLU wasted no time pouncing:
✔ @realDonaldTrump We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!
and the ACLU responded:
✔ @ACLU Glad we both agree the ban is a ban. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/871143765473406976 …5:22 PM - 3 Jun 2017 · Beach Haven, NJ
If you missed Fox News last Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Kelly was clarifying for us all once again that there was no ban:
“The fact is that in those countries, we have very little ability to actually verify, vet the people that are coming out of those countries. So, what the president and it’s not a travel ban, remember. It’s the travel pause. What the president said, for 90 days, we were going to pause in terms of people from those countries coming to the United States that would give me time to look at additional vetting.”
Take all the time you need, John, no rush. Trump just destroyed your argument and the entire administration’s legal argument with one stupid tweet.
