Soon-to-be ex-governor of New Jersey Chris Christie continued his never-ending vacation from responsibility last night, enjoying the New York Mets face off against the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows-Carona Park, Queens, New York. According to Dan Ramos, who posted the clip below:
Here's probably the highlight of tonight's Mets game for the fans at Citi Field. During the top of the 3rd inning with the St. Louis Cardinals up 3-0, Paul Dejong popped up a foul ball to the right side & New Jersey Governor Chris Christie catches the foul ball with his left hand & then gets greeted warmly with boos from the Citi Field crowd. Interestingly, the Mets announcers on SNY didn't bother to make mention of this, but as you'll see here, the St. Louis announcers from FOX Sports Midwest sure did notice it & took a shot at Christie while they're at it.
According to the New York Daily News, the crowd didn’t give any credit to Gov. Christie for handing the ball to a kid in a nearby seat—and why should they? If you’re a big boy and you catch a ball, you give it to a little boy, that’s what you do. You want a cracker? The Cardinals announcing booth for the cable broadcast below is Dan McLaughlin and Tim McCarver. McLaughlin was the one who took the “shot” at Gov. Christie, saying this:
Nice to see him get from the beach to the ballpark.
If you don’t know what the “beach” reference is, you can read this diary, but WARNING—pictures of Chris Christie at the beach.
