Lately there have been a plethora of news stories and diaries about what Democrats stand for; here’s one really good example of the difference between the two parties:
Two Senators with cancer come to town to vote on healthcare for millions of Americans.
One Senator votes to provide healthcare to millions and protections in the form of coverage for pre-existing conditions, and bans on lifetime limits.
The other Senator votes to advance an unwritten bill that will remove those protections, destabilize the current insurance markets and kick people off Medicaid; all to provide a huge tax cut to billionaires. This same Senator then has the nerve to give a speech on the loss of Senate parliamentary norms; the norms he just voted to break!
The actions by both Sen. Kennedy & Sen. McCain are not an aberration from party norms. They encapsulate their respective party’s ideals and values. All 48 Democratic Senators voted no on the Motion to Proceed. Only two GOP Senators voted no today; Sen. Collins & Sen. Murkowski.
Elections have consequences, we are seeing that again today. This example is one that shows there’s a difference between the parties, so, please make sure you can vote in next year’s elections. It’s the only way we can make change in Congress.
