So now it’s no longer a politically motivated hit-and-run. It’s murder. The Hill reported:
The mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia confirmed that one person died after a car plowed into a group of counter-protestors during a white nationalist rally Saturday.
“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will--go home,” Mayor Mike Signer tweeted.
The Guardian reported:
Witnesses said those hit by the car were people peacefully protesting the planned white supremacist rally. It was unclear how many people were injured in that incident and the earlier clashes; footage showed the vehicle crashing into another car, throwing people over the top of it. [...]
The photographer Pat Jarrett, who was close by when the incident took place, told the Guardian: “A gray Dodge Charger ploughed into a sedan and then into a mini-van. Bodies flew. People were terrified and screaming. Those closest to it said it was definitely a violent attack. The driver, who people later described as a skinny white guy with a straggly beard, reversed out of there and drove off, the front-end of his car all smashed up.”
Reports are emerging that the driver has been arrested, but there are as yet no details.
Meanwhile, Pr*sident Trump manages to spout the dumbest both-sides-do-it refrain yet:
Anybody remember this? N.C. House Votes to Protect Drivers Who Hit Protesters.
