A young woman was the target of a hate crime by a Neo-Nazi. She died, and she was a proud member of the IWW. She was an ally in the fight against racism, hatred, and fighting for equal rights for all.
Her death is being used by some to call for the death of liberals for not standing up against capitalism. I don’t think this is what Heather Heyer would ever have wanted in having her name being used by Democratic Socialists to attack leftist organizations like Indivisible who have been instrumental in helping save the Affordable Care Act.
Train with a militia? Creating an armed group is not helpful. MLK spoke out against violence and he was for nonviolent protesting. Calling for the death of liberals, and saying not to work with Democrats in electing a Democratic majority to impeach Trump is not helpful.
This sort of reactionary activism is not helpful. It only sets us back, delegitimizes actual peaceful protests, and creates unnecessary conflicts and fractures for Trump and his Russian pals to exploit.
I refuse to be a part of this. I refuse to use a young woman’s death to organize resistance to the one party who is fighting and standing up for us, and to work against peaceful organizations like Indivisible, Dailykos, Swing Left, and Flippable who are working towards the goal of a Democratic majority in 2018.
