More good news today:
He’s the second Senate Democrat to announce today after U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D. WI). But what about Blumenthal’s colleague, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D. CT), who faces the voters next year? He’s going a different route:
Sen. Chris Murphy, a member of the Senate’s health committee, is taking a different approach, working at the committee level to stabilize the Affordable Care Act while also previewing his own legislation that would allow individuals and businesses to “buy-in” to Medicare, without expanding the program to everyone.
Earlier this summer, after Republicans failed in their most recent effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, Murphy held out hope for bipartisan health care legislation.
“[Senate Democrats] have 48 members,” he said. “We can help deliver a big bipartisan victory. … It’s not like I would come to the table demanding single-payer. I think there can be a real, actual compromise.”
Yeah, I wouldn’t bet on that. Now, if he’s waiting to read the text of the bill, that’s one thing, but hoping for an actual compromise from the GOP is just wishful thinking. If you are a Connecticut resident, I urge you to flood Murphy’s answering machines demanding he get on board with Medicare For All. Below are his office contact numbers:
