We are short at least 2 messages for this quilt — I will keep this number updated
Joel Silberman came from the world of music and theater to do something extremely valuable for the body politic — he trains progressive politicians, activists and organizations to communicate effectively, especially in front of cameras. He is a stellar media coach. His list of clientele is as impressive as it is because he is so good at what he does. But it was this communication of his own that jolted me and got me dialing my senators — and I know I was not alone! A couple months ago, Joel Silberman told his own health care story as part of the effort to preserve ACA:
Mr. Silberman is still in treatment and will be for awhile. Although his cancer was caught early, pancreatic cancer is a very, very serious thing. Let us support this wonderful and gentle man in his healing by making him a community quilt. We will take your words of love and support and make them a part of a blanket that he can rest under, take to appointments, draw strength from, and even cry into if he needs to (the quilt can take it!). The good vibrations of loving words will never wash out — I promise. And when he is well again, Joel Silberman can hang his quilt on the wall as a reminder of our abiding love and respect.
If you are unfamiliar with community quilts here on Daily Kos, it is a type of “friendship quilt” from the community to a person suffering from illness or other hardship. I collect your messages in the comments and transcribe them in archival ink onto muslin. My sister and I then sew the messages into a colorful quilt.
It takes lots of time and material to make a community quilt and it is a living for me and my sister. If you would like to contribute toward the cost of this quilt, here is a PayPal link — or message me for an address should you prefer a check. $20/message is suggested by no worries if you cannot afford to donate. We still want your message! This is a crowdfunded thing and some always give more to cover messages for those who are short on funds.

We are at work on Mopshell’s quilt (no pictures or peeking until it is done — it is a surprise!). Her quilt top will be done very soon so we will be able to turn to Joel Silberman’s quilt right away. If you know anyone in need of the kind of comfort one of these quilts provides, please drop me a line.
