For heaven’s sake. People who have no problem demanding CBO scores on various Republican outrages like Graham-Cassidy nevertheless will attack people who want to see the tax bill for M4A or other nationalized health care ideas, because just jumping up and down and claiming that it will be cheaper than what we already have is not good enough; we have to sell this idea and it would be better to get the hard math part done first, right? So we can promote such an idea in the real world?
I don’t understand the resistance here, you should forgive the expression, because it’s not “the resistance,” it’s a resistance to the idea that we should see some actual figures so that real world bills can be crafted in the event that we actually have a chance to implement such a proposal in that happy alternate universe in which Trump is gone along with the Republican majority; or even sooner, in case some sane Republicans actually want to deliver health care to the people.
I realize that I am a hopelessly nitpicking old lady who believes in facts and reality and getting things done.
Sorry about that.
But the hard nitty gritty work is what gets things done.
Same with “free” college. Show us the numbers. There is no “free.”
Meanwhile, in case people haven’t noticed, we are fighting another last ditch battle to save Obamacare, this time they might actually have the votes because they’ve been literally bribing Red State senators with huge block grants that will do serious harm to Blue States and also, seniors, disabled people, sick people and Medicaid as a program.
I don’t know why wanting to see actual working numbers makes a person a reactionary. I don’t.
One reason people reacted so viciously to Obamacare is the mandate. Americans are famously rebellious. And we hate paying taxes. It’s in our national DNA (remember the Boston Tea Party?)
Well, the latter day Tea Party, which has morphed into the dreadful Freedom Caucus emerged from the health care mandate. People must be persuaded that the numbers add up for them. Therefore, show us the numbers. Don’t just preach “oh this is so much more civilized,” and “Canada has a better system!”
WE KNOW THAT.
We also know from experience that a huge percentage of Americans hates socialism. Many are Libertarians both Right and Left who hate being told what to do period. Some still think socialism is Communism, totalitarian style, Soviet authoritarian style communism, which it is not.
Many Americans don’t even believe in “the commons.”
We have an uphill fight here and the truth is our best ally, yet some of us resist a simple request: show me the money.
Show me the money so we can get a majority of voters on our side.
Meanwhile, let’s light up the phone lines and defend Obamacare again before we wind up with Zerocare.
