Imagine if the Republicans were able to pass Graham-Cassidy or some iteration thereof.
It would allow states to have much higher fees for pre-existing conditions and to reimpose lifetime caps on certain diseases.
My wife has a blood cancer, for which the nominal costs so far exceed $400,000. I have hypertension and elevated cholesterol, and have a stent in my aorta because of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
There are other issues in both of our medical histories, but those are sufficient to lay out the case.
As it is we our covered by my wife’s excellent insurance as a federal employee.
But if the Republicans could gut the ACA, and Medicaid, does anyone doubt they would also take aim at the health care currently provided federal employees, whether executive, judicial or legislative branches.
There are others, not on federal insurance, whose crises would be much more immediate than ours. We know that. That includes many in this virtual community, and many in the communities in which we live, I work, and we both worship.
Without the generosity of our insurance, which includes very generous prescription coverage including the ongoing low-dose chemo that keeps her blood cancer in check. we could very well be facing a serious shortening of her life span. My stent requires regular monitoring, now down to xray studies once a year that cost about $4,000.
But then, with the ‘no’ on the bill from Sen. Collins, perhaps we dodge this bullet.
Then we just have to worry that since we are near Washington DC, one way or another we would become a high-value target should we have a nuclear exchange with N Korea, although so far we seem to be outside the range of their missiles. Still, that would not be the only way to deliver a nuclear weapon.
Isn’t life wonderful under the inspired leadership of our current dear leader?
