(Revised version of diary posted yesterday)
It was an assembly of those who believed in God and also in the divinity of Jesus Christ at the annual convocation of the Congressional Weekly Prayer Breakfast, where it is said that they all put aside their partisan differences to pray together in fellowship. I hadn’t planned to watch this, but it was on CSPAN2 since the Senate was in adjournment in the shutdown of government.
For those with a taste for watching this individual read a speech off of a teleprompter, and still convey hatred and contempt for those outside his cult of followers ( on this subject is a majority of Americans), here’s a partial video that I only found on Fox News, Here’s the entire official transcript.
With all the love that was being shared, with copious references to the benevolence of Christ’s teachings that motivated these men and women on the dais, I saw Trump sitting next to the speakers, and waited to hear how he would finesse his mendacious, hedonism his willingness to murder that innocent person on Fifth Avenue with the worlds of the Father, much less the expansion of them by the Son.
I didn’t have to wait long as his very first words after acknowledging the other speakers, were to reject at least a tenth of American citizens who are atheists as not really belonging with these three words, “America is a nation of believers”
Here are key sections of his “theology” twisted to fit our national history, with my comments in italics:
Donald J. Trump:
Each year, this event reminds us that faith is central to American life and to liberty. Our founders invoked our Creator four times in the Declaration of Independence.
You got that right, but this was a metaphorical document, you know like a promo for major event, so they exaggerated a bit. The actual rules of our country are in the Constitution, and you know how many times they mentioned God? The answer is zero. And that includes the oath of office that you took on January 20th 2017, which happened not be the one prescribed in the Constitution. Your “so help me god “ was another ad lib, unlike your predecessor who signaled it was his own prayer- A strict constructionist like Scalia or Gorsuch would, if they were honest, rule that every law you have signed is invalid, since you never took the Constitutional oath of office.
If you want to bring up quotes from the Declaration of Independence then at least be consistent. It also said that “All men are created equal” while they tolerated the enslavement of those men forcefully brought to this country.
Our rights are not given to us by man; our rights come from our Creator. (Applause.) No matter what, no Earthly force can take those rights away. (Applause.) That is why the words “Praise be to God” are etched atop the Washington Monument, and those same words are etched into the hearts of our people.
If our rights come from our Creator? Did he give them to all of his children, or just to those who happen to have citizenship in this country at this particular time. Have you ever traveled the world to see how many people have no rights at all now, which has been even more so throughout history. You are about to send hundreds of thousands of people back to Salvador, where human rights do not exist. Sure, we can't save the world, but it’s absurd to claim that they come from our “creator” who sure could have done a better job if that’s what he wanted.
So today, we praise God for how truly blessed we are to be American. (Applause.) Across our land, we see the splendor of God’s creation. Throughout our history, we see the story of God’s providence. And in every city and town, we see the Lord’s grace all around us, through a million acts of kindness, courage and generosity. We love God.
No, your very existence, much less that you have become the President of a great and decent country is the ultimate denial of the reality that an all powerful God watches over his creation. Those who believe in God at least try to to follow his commandments. You treat them as a joke, that following them sort of like paying taxes -— you get away with as much avoidance as you can if you are “smart.”
And we place our hands on our hearts as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance and proclaim we are “One Nation Under God.”
In the words of your Secretary of State, “you fucking moron” Don’t you know that the Supreme Court Ruled in 1943 that no one has to place their hand over their heart, much less recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and that was before the words you quote were added in 1954, when our enemy was atheistic communism. Now, in case you haven’t noticed, it not the atheists who are killing us, but those who are really really religious, praying five times a day — and that’s for real, not for show as you are doing right now.
The rest was a deluge of a smarmy litany of how American and God are on team compassion, always have been and always will. Perhaps some day there will be another man or woman who wins an election for Congress who will proudly identify as an atheist which will bring the total to 2 out of the 12,000 people who served. We must support those who declare their “non religiosity” who like our founders gives meaning to the words of our Declaration which are praise to “Natures God” which is a very different concept from what has become our national cult of justification of any travesty as being God’s will.
