My name is Jim Keady and I am running for Congress in New Jersey’s #FightingFourth district.
On Monday night, in a debate with my fellow NJ-04 Congressional candidates, I made it clear where I stand - with the working people of NJ04, NOT with Wall Street.
During the debate, one of my primary opponents launched an impassioned defense of Republican collaborators, and declared “Wall Street’s not the enemy.”
With Democrats like this, who needs Republicans?
Because of the recklessness of the big banks and the failure of the ratings agencies, the entire global economy almost collapsed in 2008. In all, Americans lost $19.2 trillion dollars in household wealth through the crisis and by 2010, there were more than 46.2 million people in poverty, the largest number of Americans in poverty in 52 years of this data being published.
It is clear now more than ever, that we can’t afford to send any more Wall Street supporters to Congress — we already have one here in NJ04 in Republican Chris Smith.
You can watch the “Wall Street’s not the enemy,” comment and my response to it below.
Whether it is living with sweatshop laborers in Indonesia or standing with striking CWA and IBEW workers in NJ-04, I know the harm that Wall Street can do to working people — and I will boldly stand up and advocate for them both at the grassroots and from the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
When I heard my Democratic opponent state that “Wall Street’s not the enemy,” I felt compelled to respond: “Tell the millions of families who lost their homes in 2008; the people who lost their pensions and 401(k)s, and the people who lost millions of jobs that Wall Street is not the enemy.”
Watch it above.
I won this round in the primary fight — but there’s more to come, and Wall Street will be watching.
