Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D. NJ) in support of Richard Cordray’s (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign:
I’m reaching out for your help to elect a bold leader to become Ohio’s next governor—Rich Cordray.
Rich has dedicated his life to standing up to corporate wrongdoers and fighting for working families in Ohio and across our country.
But last Friday in Cincinnati, President Trump said that as the nation’s consumer watchdog, Rich was “hurting people” and “really enjoyed it.” The insults aren’t going to bother Rich, but we need to set the record straight.
Here are the facts: During his tenure as the first-ever director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Rich took on our nation’s largest financial institutions and returned $12 billion to people who were cheated out of their money—that’s hard-earned money that banks wrongfully took from their customers on everything from student loans to credit cards to mortgages.
Prior to leading the CFPB, Rich served as Ohio’s Attorney General and fought on behalf of public school teachers and retirees who were victims of fraud and financial predators, recovering over $2 billion for Ohioans.
Rich has proven time and time again that he fights hard for Ohio’s working families. That’s why I’m proud to support his candidacy, and I hope you will join me.
Can you chip in right now and join me in making sure Rich Cordray becomes Ohio’s next governor?
Ohio needs a leader who not only cares about protecting workers and consumers, but has the experience, ability and the fight to show results—and that’s the kind of leadership Rich has demonstrated throughout his entire career.
With some polls now showing Rich tied with his Republican opponent, I know he can win this November. But he can’t do it without a strong grassroots army standing behind him.
Will you join me in supporting Rich by contributing to his campaign right now?
Thanks,
Cory
